Koh Samui, Thailand | Island Travel Guide

The majority of visitors to Koh Samui will start their journey from Bangkok. Regular daily flights depart from BKK Airport as well as other domestic airports around the country.

If travelling overland, from the North of Thailand, you will need to pass through Bangkok en route to the South, the only alternative is flying from Chiang Mai.

From other Southern destinations, overland you will need to head for the port city of Surat Thani to catch one of the regular express boats or car ferries over to Koh Samui.

BY AIR
Samui Airport has regular domestic flights from Bangkok, Trat (Koh Chang), Chiang Mai, Pattaya (U-Tapao), Krabi and Phuket. There are also international direct flights available from Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur (Subang).

Bangkok Airways covers all the above routes.

The southern rail link, departing from Hualumpong Station in Bangkok:

*Note: There is no direct rail link to Phuket or Krabi. If coming from Bangkok you will need to catch a connecting bus to/from Surat Thani.

BY BUS
From Bangkok, all southern bus routes depart from the Southern Bus Terminal ("Sai Dai Mai") and have direct routes to all major destinations.
